Shopping is personally one of my favorite past times but at the same time I want cute and trendy clothes without breaking the bank, especially when trends come in and out so fast. Why would anyone want to drop hella money on clothes that might be out of style in a few months (we have all been there) . There are so many different ways to dress stylish without having buyers remorse after just a few months.

  1. Basics, Basics, Basics

Let’s talk about the the basic staples in our closets, that black crop top that goes with everything, the white mini skirt that can dress up anylook. Those are the staples I am talking about. Basic clothing pieces can be dressed up dressed down and are timeless. The mistake people make is shopping for basics at the wrong stores, why are we spending $40 dollars on a “basic top”? Stop wasting your money on a top that you can buy at another store for less. That black crop top you just bought can be bought off amazon for $12. It’s all about using your resources when looking to save money. The best part about buying staple pieces for your closet is that you can easily take a basic top and dress it up to a styling outfit with accessories.

2. Trend Scouting

Trends are always up and coming and with that means EVERY store are trying to capitalize on the current trends meaning identical pieces of clothing are being made and sold at completely different price ranges, I have saved 100s of dollars on taking the extra time to look around. One of the most common stores I see this happening with is alter’d state, their clothes are so cute but can be on the more pricey side but francescas the cheaper alternative has the same styles and patterns with little differences. Taking the time to find similar pieces is going to be your best friend when looking for something that is a current trend.

3. Second Hand is Your Best Friend

Thrift shops have always been a great place to find unique clothes for cheap. Before shopping at thrift stores it is a good idea to have styles in mind which make shopping a lot easier. With the internet and people always trying to sell clothes you can always find amazing clothes for super marked down. Second hand is great to save money and also find clothes that not everyone has and create your own style and outfit. Another benefit is that most of those second hand stores allow you to sell clothes to them in exchange for store credit meaning you can get clothes for a super discounted rate. Also second hand stores such as uptown cheapskates are great ways to find trendy pieces that are a little more up to date than the salvation army.

4. Coupons and Clearance

One of my favorite ways to save money is coupons, coupons can save you boatloads of money, just from a simple search you can have access to dozens of different coupon codes and with new technology there are online browsers that automatically search for coupons so you don’t have too. Another aspect of using coupons is getting an idea of how frequently stores go on sale and taking advantage. Normally after summer shorts go on sale because of the off season leaving you with summer clothes as cheap as 60–70 percent off. It’s important to have an idea of the clothes you want even before mark downs happen so when it’s time for sales to come you aren’t over whelmed with sales and end up spending more money on clothes just for the sale and the money being saved.

5. Knowing When to Splurge and When to Wait

We all know that feeling when something was on sale and then we sit and wait and it’s either sold out or back to the full price. It’s okay to splurge every now and again especially when you are cutting expenses already in your closet by shopping smarter. With splurging it can be important to make sure you fully love a piece of clothing so it doesn’t end up not being worth it after a few months. Shopping should be fun and enjoyable, clothes are great expressions of yourself and your style and it can be when making the right choices with clothing and after time those choices are easier and easier.
